il gusto nell'arte - (taste in art)
La sensibilità estetica dell'uomo della strada è spesso acuta quando si rivolge ad un oggetto prodotto dall'industria, ad un edificio moderno, ad una suppellettile. Ma appena dall'oggetto d'uso, dall'ordigno industriale, si passa all'oggetto artistico vero e proprio, e ancora di più al dipinto a al brano musicale, il gusto si corrompe: lontani ricordi, forse scolastici , una non meglio precisabile opinione pubblica, rispetto a ciò che si debba o non si debba considerare artistico, vaghe memorie e confronti con l'autentico passato artistico (specialmente in Italia), fanno si che tale pubblico consideri artistica proprio la peggiore imitazione stilistica, il peggiore camuffamento d'un passato ormai defunto, o qualche ambigua modernizzazione decorativa.
