E' nel periodo Pre-Boreale (11.500 anni da oggi) che fa la sua prima comparsa in Val Camonica ( 2000 mt. sul livello del mare) l'uomo che, fino a quel momento, aveva vissuto nelle aree pedemontane, nelle zone collinari e perilacustri più a sud, negli ingressi della valle che sfociano nella pianura e che non erano stati interessati dalla glaciazione, se non marginalmente. Oggi la Val Camonica, con le sue oltre 350.000 incisioni, rimane uno dei maggiori siti archeologici ( per incisioni rupestri) del mondo.
